Scope

This document applies to plugs, socket-outlets, ship connectors and ship inlets, hereinafter referred to as accessories, intended to connect ships to dedicated direct current (DC) shore supply systems described in IEC/IEEE80005-4.

These accessories have a maximum rated current of 1 500 A[3] and a maximum rated operating voltage not exceeding 1 500 V DC.

NOTE 1: The various operating currents and voltages required for various types of ship are set by the DC shore supply system described in IEC/IEEE 80005-4.

These accessories are intended to be installed and operated by instructed persons (IEC 60050-195:2021, 195-04-02) or skilled persons (IEC 60050-195:2021, 195-04-01) only.

This document is not intended to exclude other interfaces for low-voltage shore connection systems in DC.

These accessories are primarily intended for use outdoors, in a seawater environment, for the shore supply of ships (ship-to-shore connection), in an ambient temperature within the range of −25 °C to +45 °C.

NOTE 2: In some countries, other ambient temperatures prevail and are considered.

These accessories are intended to be connected to cables of copper or copper alloy.

NOTE 3: Different materials for conductors need further consideration.

Socket-outlets or ship inlets incorporated in or fixed to electrical equipment which is part of the DC shore connection system are within the scope of this document.

In locations where special conditions prevail, for example where explosions are liable to occur, additional requirements may be necessary.

The accessories in this document can be used as interfaces for swap container power banks.

NOTE 4: For communication control contacts, it can need additional consideration.
