This document specifies the methodology for determining the kickback potential of chain-saws equipped with guide bar and saw-chain. The described procedure has been validated as an accurate method for evaluating computed kickback angles (CKA) and the energy associated with kickback events for electric-powered chainsaws (including battery powered) and internal combustion engine chain-saws with a displacement of up to 80 cm³.
This document is not intended to evaluate chain-saws with an engine displacement above 80 cm³. Furthermore, because of physical size limitations of the kickback machine, it is not suitable for testing chain-saws with a guide bar cutting length exceeding 63 cm.
Modifications introduced in this edition are aimed to have a better description and test results obtained according to the previous versions still maintain their validity.
