Overview: Under the direction of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee, is responsible for the UK input to "CEN/TC308 Characterization and management of sludge" and "ISO/TC 275 Sludge recovery, recycling, treatment and disposal". EH/5 is responsible for the preparation, revision and amendment of British Standards for the methods employed for characterizing sludges and products from storm water handling; night soil; urban waste water collecting systems; urban waste water treatment plants and similar industrial waters (as defined in EU directive 91/271); water supply treatment plants; water systems; but excluding hazardous sludges from industry. Included are the sampling methods, physical and biological analyses required for characterizing these sludges to facilitate decisions on the choice of treatment procedures, & of the utilization and disposal.
