Overview: Under the direction of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committees, is responsible for standards covering the application of non-destructive testing to mechanical engineering materials and components, excluding tubes/pipes and associated flat products used in the manufacture of welded tubes/pipes. This includes the non-destructive testing of welds but excludes welds made in the manufacture of pipes and welds for the repair of castings. The specification of acceptance criteria for mechanical engineering materials and components is excluded. This committee also covers qualification of non destructive tests, visual testing and measurement of residual stress. The committee provides the UK input to CEN/TC 138 and ISO/TC 135, the European and International committees for general non-destructive testing, and to CEN/TC 121/WG 21 and ISO/TC 44/SC 5 (partially with WEE/2), the European and International committees for testing and inspection of welds.
