Scope

The overload test ensures the stove's performance remains consistent even when the use deviates from the nominal test requirements, by assessing its ability to handle a higher load of fuel compared to the standard nominal fuel load which occurs during the use phase.

This document specifies a test method for an additional overload test for appliances as described in EN 16510-2-1:2022 and EN 16510-2-2:2022 and other relevant appliances to be discussed.

This test procedure covers testing of a higher heat output than nominal heat output as described in EN 16510-1:2022.

Purpose

At WG1’s meeting concerns were raised about the appropriateness of the current overload test, arguing that it lacks reproducibility compared to other heat output tests. This point is important as it could be required by national labels to determine if one appliance is discarded or not.

WG1 suggested revising the procedure in order to improve the reproducibility. The wording, definitions and target have to be redefined during the revision to clarify the scope and the procedure.

A key point of discussion was the lack of validation and proven reproducibility for the overload test method. WG1 decided to revise the TS.
