Scope

Under SPSC, is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards relating to fire safety of construction sites.

Purpose

Construction remains one of the few major sectors without a comprehensive British Standard covering fire safety management across the entire construction lifecycle. Existing guidance is fragmented, focusing on specific risks or activities. BS 9989 would provide a coherent framework linking governance, competence, fire risk assessment, emergency planning and specialist risks.

Themes and topics

Construction fire safety management, governance, competence, risk assessment, change management, emergency planning, records, specialist hazards and lifecycle risk management. It forms the overarching framework for the wider BS 9989 series.
