This document specifies a test method for evaluating the bacterial reduction activity of single-use wet wipes on hard surfaces. The wet wipes covered by this document are made from substrates such as non-woven fabrics, woven fabrics, or knitted fabrics and are intended for daily use in households and not for medical applications. They are intended for single use and are not reusable. The test method simulates the everyday action of gently wiping a hard surface by hand. The key principle of the test method is to mechanically reproduce this hand-wiping action under standardized and reproducible conditions.
Specialty textile products designed to contribute to comfortable and hygienic living, such as textiles with antibacterial, antifungal, or antiviral properties, have been introduced into the market and their applications have continued to expand year by year.
Against this background, wet wipes with bacterial reduction activity, intended for maintaining the hygiene of hard surfaces in daily life, have also rapidly gained widespread acceptance among consumers and now constitute a significant global market.
However, existing wet-wiping standards are primarily intended for intensive chemical disinfection in healthcare settings, where stringent infection control is required. To date, there has been no international standard for objectively evaluating, with a high degree of reproducibility, the bacterial reduction activity associated with the everyday wiping action of gently wiping a hard surface by hand, one of the most common wiping practices performed by general consumers in daily life.

By establishing an international standard for evaluating the bacterial reduction activity of wet wipes on hard surfaces through manual wiping, products that meet defined performance requirements can be consistently manufactured and marketed worldwide.
