This document covers the definitions of interfaces positioning, hydraulic and pneumatic interfaces, electrical interfaces, temperature and pressure connections and I/O communication ports and protocols for solid oxide fuel cell modules to be used in stationary applications for (heat and) power generation.
Fuel Cell Modules (FCM) are components of final products. The FCM shall act as a subordinate and follow the power or current demanded by the (heat and) power generator control system. The FCM shall be intrinsically safe.
This document provides definitions and specifications for FCMs using solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, in terms of their system-side interface. The internal interface (between the SOFC stack and the FCM) is out of scope. The specifications in this document can help original equipment manufacturers (OEM) accurately select and design the connections that will effectively integrate the FCM within the final application. couple the FCM to be used by any OEM in stationary applications.
This document does not apply to mobility applications. There are no requirements for power or power density as long as the FCM rated power is above 1 kW.
To facilitate the large-scale production of fuel cell modules that can be efficiently integrated in market-ready systems, a (optional) specification of interface characteristics is proposed that can be referred to during the interactions between fuel cell module provider and system integrator. Integrators and SOFC module suppliers can thus more easily align their designs and larger numbers could be produced in due course.
