This document also specifies a test procedure for servo motors. Those motors are not operated and measured in thermal steady state, but in a defined temperature range over the entire intended operating range.
The objective of this document is to define test methods for determining total losses including additional high frequency motor losses and efficiency of converter-fed servo motors. Additional high frequency losses appear in addition to the losses on nominally sinusoidal power supply as determined by the methods of IEC 60034
2 1. Results determined according to this document are intended to allow comparison of losses and efficiency of different servo motors.
The efficiency determination of servo motors is based on the constraint of testing the motor together with the dedicated converter for the final application. Since the control method of the converter influences the servo motor performance significantly, the approach of the comparable converter of IEC60034-2-3 is not practical for servo motors. Therefore, servo motors shall be measured or calculated for efficiency using precisely this inverter for validation. If, for any reason, this is not possible, an equivalent inverter should be chosen, and the characteristic curve adjusted accordingly.
Servo motors are not designed for continuous duty operation. Therefore, efficiency determination of servo motors according to this standard is based on testing efficiency for several operating points within the operating range of the servo motor. For testing these operating points, the servo motor shall be operated within a standardized temperature range
