This part of ISO 9444 specifies the tolerances on dimensions and form for continuously hot-rolled stainless steel narrow strip in actual widths of less than 600 mm. It also applies to cut lengths taken from such strip.
Today, EN 10048:1996 Hot rolled narrow steel strip - Tolerances on dimensions and shape, which also cover stainless steels, is valid as European standard. However, CEN/TC 459/SC 3 Structural steels other than reinforcements, which is responsible for EN 10048, is currently revising the standard. In the next edition, stainless steels will be excluded from its scope.
Consequently, CEN/TC 459/SC 13 needs to adopt ISO 9444-1:2009 Continuously hot-rolled stainless steel - Tolerances on dimensions and form - Part 1: Narrow strip and cut lengths (which belongs to ISO/TC 17/SC 22), as EN ISO 9444-1 with identical technical content, to maintain European standardization coverage for stainless steel narrow strip and cut lengths products.
The same approach has already been successfully applied through the adoption of ISO 9444-2:2009, ISO 9445-1:2009, ISO 9445- 2:2009 and ISO 18286:2008 as EN ISO standards and were published 2010 with identical technical content as the corresponding ISO standards.
