This document serves as a decision-making aid and reference when developing or applying multi-agent systems in industrial automation is being considered. It documents use cases on the deployment of classical or AI-based multi-agent systems in different areas of applications. Each use case covers the business context including domain of application and problems to be solved along with objectives, and the technical perspectives of multi-agent systems for automation and their outcomes. The user group includes users, developers and system integrators of software systems in industrial automation.
The increasing ubiquity of Artificial Intelligence has reignited interest in agent and multi-agent systems as key technology towards general artificial intelligence, for example, with Agentic AI and LLM-driven facilitate the industrial adoption of cutting-edge research and technology. This project is an important part of the series that provides and describes a comprehensive, holistic approach to AI agents in industrial automation systems.
