This Part of BS 2738 specifies the information to be included in prescriptions (prepared by optometrists, ophthalmologists or ophthalmic medical practitioners) and in prescription orders (prepared by optometrists and dispensing opticians and their staff) to enable the correct spectacle lenses for a patient to be supplied. It also specifies the method by which the ophthalmic and other information is to be presented.
Adjustment to the standard to incorporate the recent development of analogue-lensed refractor heads that can give results in 0.01 D steps instead of the customary 0.25 D steps. This amendment was suggested by the technical committee which includes representation of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians during the recent systematic review of the standard.
