This part of IEC TS 62607 establishes standardized methods to determine the structural key control characteristics, including
• Shielding effectiveness (SE) in the frequency range of 1 GHz to 40 GHz using the free -space method.
This document describes in detail
– the preparation of nanocomposite specimens applicable to free -space measurement
– the shielding effectiveness measurement method for nanocomposite materials
– data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of the shielding effectiveness results
Due to the frequency-dependent electrical and magnetic properties of nanocomposite materials, they can be effectively used for electromagnetic shielding in high -frequency applications. As modern communication technologies such as 5G and radar operate at higher frequencies, accurate evaluation of shielding effectiveness up to tens of gigahertz is increasingly required. However, existing standards, including ASTM D4935, are limited to 30 MHz–1.5 GHz and cannot fully characterize the shielding behavior of nano composite materials across the high-frequency electromagnetic region.
To overcome this limitation, this standard introduces a free -space measurement method capable of evaluating shielding effectiveness from 1 GHz to 40 GHz. The free-space method enables non-contact measurement of flexible or large-area specimens and provides reliable results across a wide frequency range.
The purpose of this standard is to establish a comprehensive measurement procedure for assessing the electromagnetic shielding performance of nanocomposite materials. It defines specimen requirements, test configurations, and data interpretation methods to ensure reproducibility and accuracy. This approach is expected to support the development of advanced shielding materials and measurement technologies for high - frequency applications such as next-generation communication systems.
