Scope

This BSI Flex specifies requirements for wireless power transmission (WPT) to low-power electronic devices over a range of up to 20 m.

NOTE While this BSI Flex is focused on WPT, with reference to licence-exempt radio frequency (RF) spectrums, the WPT technologies are also capable of data transmission and reception.

This BSI Flex covers:

•           potential transmission frequency bands for use in the UK;

•           protection of transmitters, receivers and their components from damage (e.g. water);

•           transmitter and receiver interoperability with other electronic devices; and

•           safety of transmitters, receivers and associated charging, and safe interaction with other electronic devices and with living organisms.

This BSI Flex does not cover:

•           laser, ultrasonic, optic, kinetic, solar and inductive power transfer; or

•           embedded medical devices; or

•           data transmission or handling.

This BSI Flex is of use by:

•           designers and manufacturers of wirelessly charged low-power electronic devices, such as Internet of Things (IoT) devices, smart clothing, wearables, medical and portable devices; and

•           designers and manufacturers of RF power transmitters and receivers.

This BSI Flex might be of interest to regulators, healthcare practitioners, healthcare insurance organizations, healthcare procurement organizations, health- and age-related charities, consumers, researchers and academics, trade associations and legal organizations.
