Standards Development
This document specifies methods and general requirements for determining the repairability of electrical appliances for household and similar use. It applies the general principles and methods of EN 45554, adapting them for the specific context of household and similar electrical appliances. This document does not specify product-specific requirements; these are defined in Part 2 product standards. When referenced by such product standards, those standards are responsible for defining relevant priority parts and specific metrics for repairability. This document does not specify safety requirements and minimum performance requirements, nor does it set minimum or maximum limits on repairability.
To foster a circular economy in Europe, consistent methods for determining product repairability are essential. EN 45554 provides the general methods for evaluating a product's ability to be repaired, reused, and upgraded. Prior investigations, such as TR 50727, have highlighted the need for product category-specific requirements to be derived from EN 45554. This document provides clarification and a framework for determining the repairability of household and similar electrical appliances. It thereby supports a consistent standardization series for repairability within CLC TC 59X, enabling its experts to establish tailored product-specific deliverables (Part 2).
