This Technical Specification provides a reference workflow for the application of non -invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) systems in context of disorders of consciousness (DoC).
The workflow covers key stages including paradigm design, stimulation design, signal preprocessing, decoding algorithms, neurofeedback.
This document provides technical guidance to support the reliable and effective implementation of BCI systems in DoC scenarios.
This document focuses on technical aspects of BCI systems and does not define clinical assessment procedures or medical decision-making.
Non-invasive brain–computer interfaces (BCIs) provide a promising approach to detect residual consciousness in patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC), who often exhibit impaired motor function and cognitive motor dissociation, and to enable commun ication without requiring behavioral responses. However, current BCI applications in DoC lack standardized technical guidance, particularly in paradigm design, signal acquisition, preprocessing, decoding algorithms, and system evaluation.
This Technical Specification aims to establish a system workflow and best practices to support consistent, reliable, and interoperable implementation of BCI systems in DoC scenarios.
This work is not intended to replace clinical evaluation methods but to provide technical support for BCI system development and application.
Market relevance
There is increasing global interest in applying non-invasive BCI technologies in healthcare-related scenarios, particularly for DoC.Standardized technical guidance is essential to support research reproducibility, system interoperability, and industrial development of BCI technologies.
This Technical Specification will benefit researchers, developers, and healthcare -related stakeholders by providing a common technical framework for BCI implementation in DoC scenario.
