The purpose of this proposal is to specify general technical requirements for components for slings of grade 10 (shortening devices for chain) intended primarily for use in lifting applications, including chain slings, steel wire rope slings, and textile slings. The document aims to establish a uniform technical basis to ensure safety, reliability, and functional compatibility of these components used in lifting assemblies.

By clearly defining the scope and technical framework the proposal supports harmonised manufacturing practices, facilitates conformity assessment, and enhances confidence for users and regulators in the safe application of these components in lifting equipment.
Note: For the drafting of this project, DIN 5692:2011-04, “Round steel link chains — Forged steel components — Chain shortener, grade 8”, will serve as a reference document, as it has proven its technical relevance through more than a decade of practical application.
