This document specifies the terms and definitions for continuous welded rail (CWR) and its components not already defined in other ISO documents.
Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) is a common track structure used in many countries and regions, such as Europe, the United States, Japan, and China, accumulated rich experience in design, laying and maintenance, and formulated a series of standards. However, many countries lack relevant standards. The existing national and regional standards have many differences in technical requirements for CWR. The formulation of this international standard for CWR will provide reference for the formulation of contracts. Specifically, this part, "Vocabulary", also based on IRS 71720 in order to harmonise the terminology, can establish a common technical language for CWR, eliminating misunderstandings that arise from differing national definitions. A unified terminology framework provides the necessary foundation for all subsequent parts of the series, ensuring consistency and coherence across the entire standard. It helps harmonize existing terms used in various national and regional standards, enabling their mutual recognition and comparison, which is crucial for technology transfer and joint research. Therefore, this proposed standard will be developed as the first part of a series standard.
