This document specifies key terminology for circular economy in construction and construction works.
This standard specifies the core terminology related to circular economy in the construction sector.
It includes definitions to have a common understanding of circular economy in the construction sector. The transition to a circular economy is crucial for reducing pressure on natural resources and other negative environmental impacts and is a prerequisite for climate neutrality. The construction sector has a great potential of improving resource efficiency, extending service life and increasing the reuse and recycling and reducing climate and environmental impacts through circular economy approaches. A key is to establish an effective circular construction sector in line with existing EU regulation based on a common reference framework and clearly defined principles.
The purpose of this horizontal standard is to specify key terminology for circular economy in constructions and for construction works establishing a common language for stakeholder across the value chain. The standard aims to provide shared and unified terminology for circular economy in the construction sector that will lay the foundation for futures standards supporting the transition to a circular economy in the construction sector.
By defining key terminology for circular economy in the construction sector, the standard will support a consistent application, communication as well as further standardisation of circular economy in the construction sector.
The standard will be developed in parallel and closely linked to the development of the standard framework and principles of circular economy in the construction sector and will be linked to other relevant standards in particular standards developed under CEN/TC 350 and SC 1.
