Scope

(1) EN 1993-1-11 provides rules for structural design of tension components made of steel, in addition to other parts of EN 1993, for use in structures made of steel or other materials such as concrete, steel-concrete composite and timber.

(2) EN 1993-1-11 covers the resistance, serviceability and durability of steel tension elements.

(3) The following items/aspects are outside the scope of EN 1993-1-11:

— pre- or post-tensioned systems in accordance with EN 1992-1-1;

— reinforcing steel as part of a concrete structure in accordance with EN 1992-1-1;

— tension components in piling;

— detailed design of terminations.

Purpose

This amendment corrects technical and editorial points in EN 1993-1-11:2026 to improve the clarity and user-friendliness. Editorial changes are introduced in sections 3, 5, 7, 8 and Annexes A and C. Very localised changes are introduced mainly in Annex A. Changes are mainly related to the comments received. The following changes have been introduced in sections:

1) Clause 1.1 – Scope – Mention to “Tension components” replacing “Tension elements” to align with the Norm title.

2) Clause 3.1 – Terms and Definitions – text updates in 3.1.1.9, 3.1.1.10, 3.1.1.11, 3.1.2.2 and 3.1.2.3.

3) Clause 3.2 – Symbols – text updates in 6 symbol definitions.

4) Clause 4 – Bases of Design – replace definition of d and in 4.3.6(5).

5) Clause 5 – Material – Replace “below” by “lower” and “durability” by “robustness” in 5.2.1, 5.2.2 and 5.2.3.

6) Clause 7.1 - Structural Analysis – Revise text of 7.1 to update use the terms “transient design situation” and “persistent design situation”.

7) Clause 7.5 - Structural Analysis – Delete 7.5(3) and update the cross-reference to EN 1991-4:2025 – Annex G.

8) Clause 8.2 to 8.4 - Ultimate limit states – 5 text revisions.

9) Clause 8.5 – Inclusion of the “” definition in 8.5.3.2(1).

10) Annex A – A.5.2.3.3(6) & Table A.1 - clarification of the “angular deviation” to be used in the test.

11) Annex A – A.5.2.4.1(1) – clarification of the “friction coefficient to be obtained in the test of a saddle.

12) Annex A – Several clauses – Editorial modification notable of the terms “transient execution phase / persistent service phase” to “transient design situation / persistent design situation”.

13) Annex B – Figure B.8 – two term small modifications.

14) Annex C – Table C.1 – editorial modification of the table for clarity.

15) Annex C – C.4.3.1 and C.4.3.2 - Editorial modification of the terms “transient execution phase / persistent service phase” to “transient design situation / persistent design situation”.
