This proposed standard specifies the terms and definitions, test requirements and methods, annual performance rating method, test tolerances and marking provisions of packaged refrigerating units for cold storage.
With the increasing demand for imported food and the more stringent requirements for food preservation, it has led to the accelerated construction of small and medium-sized cold storage around the world. As an important part of the cold storage refrigeration system, the market demand for refrigeration equipments for cold storage continues to grow.
According to GCCA Global Cold Storage Capacity Report, global cold storage capacity reaches 946 million cubic meters in 2023, and there is an increase of approximately 38% compared to 2018. According to the latest JARN Global Refrigeration Market Report, the global refrigeration equipments for cold storage and its relevant components market value has reached US$ 14 billion in 2024, accounting for 26.8% of the commercial refrigeration equipment market value. At the same time, with the continuous deepening of the international practice of energy conservation, environmental protection and other social sustainable development themes, the refrigeration industry is also facing development requirements for energy conservation and emission reduction.
On the global market, cold storage refrigeration equipment developed in the form of packaged unit can simplify the complexity of equipment installation and commissioning to the same level as the split air conditioning, while having the high reliability, accurate temperature control, intelligent operation and other characteristics. In order to improve the quality of the packaged products, and in line with the global energy saving, emission reduction and green development goals, the development of relevant performance rating standards will provide a strong guarantee for the high-quality development of the industry.
At the same time, the United States and China already have performance evaluation standards of packaged refrigeration units for cold storage. The European Union has a performance test standard of packaged units, but no performance evaluation standard. And many other countries are in a state of absence of relevant standards. ISO, as a global authoritative standardization organization, formulating this standard will help guide the orderly market development of the packaged refrigeration units, achieve the goal of energy saving and emission reduction, guarantee the performance and reliability of product development, promote the optimization and upgrading of the product and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.
Based on the above considerations, we propose to develop the performance testing and rating standard of packaged refrigerating units for cold storage applications.
