Scope

This document applies to Oriented Strand Boards (OSB). It defines terms, establishes a classification and specifies requirements.

The values listed in this European Standard relate to product properties but they are not characteristic values to be used in design calculations.

NOTE Test methods for determination of mechanical properties for structural purposes are given in EN 789.

Determination of characteristic values of mechanical properties and density for structural purposes is given in EN 1058. Design characteristic values for OSB are given in EN 12369-1. Information on supplementary properties is given in Annex C.

Purpose

The main aim of the revision of the product standard is to add a further option to Clauses 9.3 (OSB/3) and 10.3 (OSB/4) "Moisture resistance".

In addition to:

„Option 1 - variant A „Internal bond after cyclic test“ and „

Option 1 - variant B „Bending strength after cyclic test – major axis“ and „

Option 2 „Internal bond after boil test“, a new option shall be included as follows: „

Option 3 - Bending strength after vacuum soak/re-dry cycle (according to ISO 16894:2009 section 9.3, Table 5 and Annex B)".

A new Annex D, which is based on ISO 16984:2009, Annex B, will be added. The Annex describes an alternative moisture cycle for moisture resistance.

The wording of "hazard classes" will be changed to "use classes" with regard to the changes in EN 335.

The wording of "load-bearing" boards and "non-load bearing" boards will be changed to "structural" and "non-structural" boards for the purpose of harmonization with the Eurocodes.

The standard will be editorially revised. Normative references will be updated.
