Scope

This document specifies the terminology of different types of industrial valves and the name of their main components and their definition.

Bursting discs and safety valves are excluded from this document.

Purpose

Lots of different valves are widely used in industrial fields,such as Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil and gas, Power-station, Water-supply, and so on.In order to have better communication,it is useful to define terminology of valves and their components within ISO/TC153. And it is benefits for manufacturers, designers,users and other relevant stakeholder to communicate effectively.

And CEN/TC 69 has developed EN 736 series standards for valves terminology including their components. As discussed in the plenary meeting of ISO/TC153 held on 2024-12-06 in Düsseldorf (Germany),the draft of this NWIP will be based on EN 736 series excluding bursting discs and safety valves from the scope ( they are covered by ISO/TC 185 and ISO 4126 series).
