Scope

The scope of the proposed standard are means for describing and providing metrological access to elements intended to control the progression of myopia on uncut finished spectacle lenses

Purpose

Myopia as a leading vision issue, both as a source for refractive error, and especially when progressing to high levels, as a risk factor for eye health (e.g. retina detachment). While correction of myopia can be achieved with known means (e.g. spectacle lenses governed by ISO 14889 and the ISO 8980 series), means intended to slow down the progression of myopia on such lenses (i.e. myopia control elements, MOEs) are novel and not covered by any global standard yet. The purpose of this proposal is to offer means of specification and metrological access to such elements to ease communication between different stakeholders and facilitate quality control, thereby also helping to maintain a basic level of quality.
