This document provides comprehensive guidance for space professionals on the effective management of use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in space systems. It is designed to support system engineers, project managers, software engineers, safety engineers, and quality managers in ensuring the safe deployment, operation, and management of AI technologies in space missions.
Organizations should develop and implement comprehensive AI management plans that include (a) Risk management protocols to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with AI systems; (b) Data quality and integrity standards to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and security of data used by AI systems; (c) Policies for human oversight and system explainability to ensure that AI systems are transparent and accountable; (d) Ensure compliance with management plans throughout the lifecycle of AI-driven systems. This proposal is aligned with the following international standards: This document aligns with international frameworks such as the ISO/IEC 42001 AI Management System, ISO/IEC 23894 Guidance on Risk, ISO/IEC 38507 Governance, ISO/IEC 5259 Data Quality, ISO/IEC TR 24029 Robustness and Resilience, EU AI Act 2024, NASA, IEEE P7000 Ethical AI Principles, the Space Act of 2021, National Security Domain DoD/USSF, and the UNOOSA Guidelines for Space Activities. It also incorporates best practices from the SDA Collision Avoidance Protocols to ensure robust and reliable AI applications in space systems. It is not the scope of this International Standard to describe in detail the use Artificial Intelligence processes
