This document specifies the optical fibre channels for generic cabling in accordance with ISO/IEC 11801 -1 and specifies the relevant transmission properties.
This document:
a) offers users of a generic cabling installation a broad spectrum of supported applications;
b) eases the selection of a cabling system subject to the intended applications;
c) provides a future-proof classification scheme of optical fibre cabling as a basis for future product development;
d) allows the specification of system requirements for complete systems, sub -systems or extended systems by providing the optical fibre class.
IT cabling planners and installers need guidance on the selection of future -proof optical fibre cabling. This is currently missing in ISO/IEC 11801-1.
