Scope

Adaptation of the standardization to the new fluorine-free foam situation through revision and, as far as possible, reference to possible test methods. Please see the comments of the SR (N 2135)

Purpose

As already communicated in the SC, there is an urgent need for action regarding the revision of the EN 13565-2 due to the current and further regulation of fluorinated substances (PFAS) by the European Commission. This will affect also the use of fluorinated foam concentrates (AFFF and AFFF-AR) in fixed foam systems and requires a change over to fluorine free foams (F3) in foam systems. Adjustments to reflect the requirements caused by the use of the F3 concentrates in fixed foam systems.

The current DIN 13565-2 does not take into account the technical properties of fluorine free foam concentrates.

Incorporation of requirements and correction factors for the use of fluorine-free foam concentrates in fixed foam systems. The performance of the foam concentrate considering the applied foam discharge devices must be included in the design. Enable general revision and applicability for the use of F3 by developing design parameters or referencing.
