Standards Development
This document defines the functional and technical requirements for head, marker and tail lamps for heavy rail units, excluding road, metro and self-contained systems.
This document also defines the requirements for testing and conformity assessment.
Lamps designed for special purposes, for example illumination of third rail, are excluded from the scope of this document.
Portable lamps are excluded from the scope of this document.
The revision of EN15153-1:2020 is required on the following basis:

In order to address certain issues before EN15153-1 may be migrated to a new ISO Standard.
Noting that EN15153-1 is a mature Standard which has been working well for many years, but needs some minor improvements before being migrated to ISO, the revision to be a ‘light-touch’ in line with the WG09 Decision 3 made on 15-Sept-2025.
CEN TC256 SC3 WG9 proposes the normal CEN process (24m timeframe) for this revision.
