Scope

This document provides guidance on the implementation, operation, and management of autonomous disinfection services using robots in smart hospital environments. It outlines best practices for leveraging robotic technologies to enhance infection prevention, ensure safety, and optimize operational efficiency within healthcare facilities.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide general guidelines for automated disinfection tasks using robots in hospital and healthcare environments. This standard aims to contribute to the prevention of hospital-acquired infections, the enhancement of patient and medical staff safety, and the improvement of disinfection task efficiency. In particular, it seeks to present the fundamental principles and guidelines necessary for the design and operation of automated disinfection systems in complex environments such as hospitals, thereby supporting various stakeholders, including hospital administrators, medical staff, and robot manufacturers.

- The recent spread of infectious diseases, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, has highlighted the critical importance of infection control in hospitals. Even under normal circumstances, a high level of hygiene management is essential to effectively control significant infection sources, such as multidrugresistant organisms.

- Automated disinfection tasks using robots open up new possibilities by reducing reliance on human labor, increasing the accuracy and efficiency of disinfection processes, and enhancing the safety of both medical staff and patients. This document reflects these technological advancements by providing fundamental guidelines for the use of robots in hospital environments, thereby promoting the development and commercialization of related technologies and facilitating the smart transformation of hospitals.
