This document specifies the general design requirements and static test methods for determining and evaluating the operator’s field of vision at the operator’s workstation in the working area.
It applies to self-propelled machinery with ride-on seated operator used in agriculture.
This document addresses all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events related to the lack of field of vision for self-propelled machinery used in agriculture, when used normally and under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. See Annex D.
This document deals with the hazards due to the operator's lack of field of vision.
It does not apply to:
— rough-terrain variable reach trucks,
— forestry machinery,
— agricultural or forestry tractors,
— aircraft and air-cushion vehicles used in agriculture,
— lawn and garden equipment,
— autonomous machinery evolving without any onboard or remote operator controlling the travel and work functions.
It does not address:
— the operator's field of vision from operator's workstations from which the travel of the machine can not be controlled;
— the operator's field of vision during the service, as defined in EN ISO 4254-1:2015, 3.2;
— requirements for circulation on public roads;
NOTE Road circulation requirements are subject to specific national or European regulations.
— the lighting and field of vision requirements inside the operator’s station or cabin;
— visual or audible reversing warnings.
This document does not apply to self-propelled machinery manufactured before the date of its publication.
To cover the visibility aspects in self-propelled agricultural machinery, giving the general/comon safety aspects as well as a test method and acceptance criteria for direct and indirect visibility.
These aspects are not sufficiently covered in the current safety standards and should complete the series EN ISO 4254 as well as the European stand-alone standards on agricultural machinery.
