Scope

This standard establishes requirements and recommendations on methods for measuring linear accelerations lasting 0.2 seconds or more, acting on passengers of mechanized rides. The general provisions of this standard contain requirements for measuring instruments, a description of measurement procedures. This standard can be used to measure the accelerations of some nonmechanized water attractions (for example, water slides).

Purpose

The main purpose of the standard is providing ISO 17929, as well as other related standards, with methods for measuring amusement ride accelerations. Measuring acceleration would make rides safer for the passengers, especially children and vulnerable adults, as well as enable enforceable safety regulations in the area of acceleration measurement. Amusement rides are often designed in one country and installed globally, and a common standard would ensure consistent acceleration safety expectations across borders even if used alone.
