Standards Development
This document specifies the subject matter and field of application for the repurposing of rechargeable lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. The document covers electrical vehicle batteries originally placed on the market under Regulation (EU) 2018/858, repurposing of components of batteries and a repurposing of industrial batteries.
The document covers repurposing of the listed battery categories above to complete batteries comprising cells, modules or packs together with associated safety devices, a battery management system (BMS), housing and external interfaces for the intended use as stationary battery energy storage systems.
This document does not cover:
- Electrical energy storage systems as a whole, including power conversion equipment, energy management systems and enclosures;
- starter-lighting-ignition (SLI) batteries, light means of transport (LMT) batteries, medical-device batteries and other product categories not covered above;
- applications accessible to laypersons.
