This document Part 2-3 of the IEC 63494-2 series specifies the interchangeability requirements of an electro- mechanical ANS seven-contact twist-lock interface based on the ANSI C136.41-2025 and ANSI C136.10- 2023 standards published by NEMA for use in lighting systems. The Zhaga Book 18 Ed 3.0 specification for the ANS seven-contact twist-lock interface with form factor N is designated as type ZB18N and included for interoperable use in lighting systems.
This twist-lock interface has four electrical contacts that are suitable for ELV voltages and three that connect with mains voltages. The four ELV connections are intended for digital communication and auxiliary power. The type ZB18N specification includes interchangeability related requirements for mechanical, electrical, ambient conditions, positional orientation, communication protocol and contact assignments for the interface. General requirements for the devices that can utilize the interface such as sensors, communication modules, cameras, etc. are out of scope for this document.
This document does not specify the following aspects:
• lighting technology,
• illumination performance,
• electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
An annex containing information about luminaire and luminaire extension module design is provided
The market demand for networked IoT upgradeable lighting includes an increasing emphasis on interchangeability and interoperability within lighting systems. To meet this demand, standards are needed to address the performance and safety aspects (mechanical, electrical and data exchange) of interfaces. Evidence of this demand is the emergence of interface standards from regional SDOs, industry associations and consortia.
To support interface interchangeability, this proposal for a standard to cover electro-mechanical interface interchangeability of the type ANS seven-contact twist-lock interface based on the ANSI C136.41-2025 and ANSI C136.10-2023 standards published by NEMA has been drafted.
