This document specifies the technical requirements for materials, surface treatment, application, inspection and testing, handling, packaging, transportation, and storage of downhole tubing internal coatings. This document is applicable to material evaluation and application of organic coatings for corrosion protection on the inner surface of carbon steel tubing.
Tubing is essential channels for the extraction and transportation of oil and gas resources, with large procurement volumes and high costs, and play an important role in the petroleum industry. During service, the inner surface of carbon steel tubing is continuously exposed to corrosive environments such as high temperature, high pressure, H2S/CO2 containing, and stimulation treatment media for a long time. Therefore, carbon steel tubing face significant corrosion risks, and corrosion failure accidents often occur, bringing significant safety risks to oil and gas field enterprises and directly affecting the service life of oil and gas wells. The internal coating technology has become one of the main solutions to alleviate the corrosion problem of tubing due to its high cost performance, strong designability and wide range of application conditions. For a long time, various coating suppliers, oil companies, and oilfield service companies have followed their own enterprise standards or technical specifications for the technical requirements of tubing coatings. This situation leads to many problems. One is the lack of unified performance indicators and testing methods, which makes it difficult to objectively evaluate and compare the advantages and disadvantages of different products. The second issue is that the user's requirements do not match the products of the coating supplier, which poses difficulties for procurement and application. The third challenge is the difficulty in defining responsibility in the event of coating failure or quality accidents.
Therefore, establishing a globally unified "technical rules" through the development of international standard can not only ensure the quality and long-term safe application of products, but also regulate the international market, promote global trade and technological exchanges, and drive industry technological progress.
