This standard specifies a rainfall test method applicable to components, equipment, or other products (e.g., surveillance cameras, communication equipment, etc.) that may be exposed to rainfall during operation.
The main purpose of the rainfall test is to evaluate the effects of rainfall on the functionality of the test specimen under simulated rainfall conditions.
This standard, unlike water resistance tests (tests that evaluate the ingress of water into the enclosure), is intended to simulate rainfall under meteorological environments. Therefore, this standard specifies test method for evaluating the effects of a w ide range of rainfall, including light rain, in terms of its effects on the visibility, communication quality, and functionality of the test specimen.
Currently, the development of electrical and electronic components for advanced mobility services, high - speed communications, and disaster monitoring is progressing rapidly around the world, with the aim of improving convenience, preventing accidents and d isasters, and mitigating damage. These electrical and electronic components, which represent cutting-edge technology, are intended for outdoor use. However, it has become clear that rain, which was previously thought to have no effect on the functionality of these components, can affect their functionality. No IEC standard has yet been published for test methods to evaluate the impact of rain on the functionality of electrical and electronic components used outdoors. The rain test method described in this proposal (Environmental Tests – Parts X-XX: Rain Test Methods) specifies rain test methods for components, equipment, or other products, and its primary purpose is to determine the functionality of test specimens under simulated rain conditions.
