Scope

This document specifies the calculation and calibration methods for thermal power of pressurized water reactor, which includes pressurized light water reactor (PLWR) and pressurized heavy water reactor (PHWR).

This document applies to the calculation and calibration of thermal power during normal operation and startup of PLWR and PHWR.

Purpose

Reactor thermal power is an critical parameter for safety in nuclear power plants. It is directly related to the control of the nuclear power. The accuracy of the thermal power must be maintained to ensure that the nuclear power is within an acceptable deviation range. If the deviation between the calculated thermal power and the actual thermal power is too large, it may cause the nuclear power to exceed the safety limit. The purpose of this standard is to provide a technical method for calculation and calibration of the thermal power of pressurized water reactor, so as to enhance the operation safety of pressurized water reactor, and offer a reference for subsequent new pressurized water reactor power plants.
