Scope

This document specifies the principles of the design, manufacture and performance of plastic scaffold planks. This document applies to plastic scaffold planks with any cross section.

Purpose

As part of sustainability and need of plastic scaffold planks replacing conventional scaffold materials and giving noticeable improved performance and durability, SASO 2949/2021 document is proposed to cover detailed specifications and requirements of plastic scaffold planks. In addition to design principles, safety aspects, dimensions and aesthetic properties; various types of expected performance and specifications are included such as UV resistance, electrostatic and fire performance requirement along with mechanical performance and tests e.g. maximum span determination for different load rating; light, medium or heavy duty holding one, two or three people, as well as ultimate/working load capacity, slippage requirement, coefficient of friction… etc. Tests are explained in details along with schematic drawings for their purpose and procedure covering a range of operating temperatures with acceptable performance limits. Packaging and marking instructions are included too. Such information will add value to regulators, manufacturers and end users in efficient designing, manufacturing and utilization of plastic scaffold planks.
