Scope

This international standard specifies the method for high-temperature corrosion testing of metallic materials in water vapor containing atmosphere and describes the procedure for supplying a test gas with water vapor as a predominant reactive oxidant.

Purpose

Until now, high temperature steam oxidation of heat resistant steels and alloys has been evaluated mainly for the boilers in thermal power plants. In recent years, due to the global movement toward carbon neutrality, high temperature steam oxidation of heat resistant steels and alloys has expanded not only to materials for the boilers, but also to materials for high-temperature steam electrolysis. Although there is a need to uniformly evaluate steam oxidation behaviour of various materials in water vapor containing atmospheres, there is currently no international standard for high-temperature steam oxidation testing methods.
