EN 623-4 concerns the use of conventional stylus type instruments for the measurement of surface texture of advanced monolithic technical ceramics, sets the test machine measuring parameters, and recommends the adoption of certain precautions and conditions of measurement.
Following the request from CEN/TC 184 (see action 04/2025 documented in TC document N 1252), CEN/TC 184/WG 3 discussed during its meeting on September 24, 2025, the outcome of the recent Systematic Review of EN 623-4:2004 (SR closed on 02-09- 2025, see N 1237). The fact that not less than six out of the nine normative references are either outdated or been withdrawn, has been considered sufficiently critical for a correct use of the document that it was agreed that this standard should be revised. Thereupon, a technical reassessment of the method was estimated necessary in order to align the standard with the current state of the art.
