Scope

The growing younger generation’s demand for Leather portfolios and wallets actively driving the portfolio and wallet market for innovative and reliable products. However, the fragmented standards for leather portfolio and wallets is hindering the manufactures to capitalize global market, while simultaneously limiting the consumers’ access to reliable and high quality products. The existing ISO standards address specific areas of leather goods (such as leather quality, durability testing, and material specifications), there is a gap in addressing leather portfolio and wallets as an integrated product category that covers both product classification and performance assessment in a holistic way. This proposal seeks to create a new ISO standard that provides clear classification criteria according to their functionality and performance benchmarks for sourcing standard materials with global compliance of mechanical properties such as tear strength, colour fastness, attachment strength of button, seam strength, fatigue resistance and also chemical requirements such as Azo dyes, chromium VI content, formaldehyde, organotin compounds, chlorophenol and pH. The expanding global market will be benefitted economically from this standard by facilitating material transparency, unwavering quality, streamlining export requirements for global trade, improve consumer confidence, support ethical practices, and promote sustainability in the leather goods industry.
