The management of electronic traffic regulations (METR) provides trustworthy, authoritative, machineinterpretable, transport-related rules for using the road network. This document defines the requirements for each of the component systems that make up the METR system of systems (SoS), including the METR regulation system, METR distribution system, METR consumer system, and METR discrepancy handling system
METR will assist users to be more aware and better able to comply with publicized rules of the road in three areas:
1. Non-travellers will be able to discover rules remotely (e.g., to assist in route planning)
2. Human users and other travellers (e.g., to pedestrians, e-scooter users, etc.) will be able to become aware of rules along their journey (e.g., through driver information systems such as in-vehicle signage or through smartphone applications), and
3. Driving automation systems (Level 1 through 5) will be able to obtain authoritative copies of the rules to be followed.
Electronic distribution of the rules will increase awareness of the rules even when they are unposted (e. g., part of the highway code) or unobservable (e.g., obscured, defaced, missing), especially in unfamiliar jurisdictional areas.
METR is defined in a multi-part series. The requirements defined in this document provide system-level requirements for implementation and testing reference. (Please use this field or attach an annex)
