Scope

This document specifies minimum design, performance, testing and labelling requirements for tool container, tool attachment, tool tether and tool anchor attachment that reduce dropped objects incidents in industrial and occupational settings. Dropped objects include hand tools, instrumentation and other items that have to be transferred and used at heights. These objects have the opportunity of becoming dropped objects potentially resulting in struck-by injury or fatality or damage to equipment. This document is not used for the regulation of harness that used to protect workers from falling from a height.

Purpose

Tool container, tool attachment, tool tether and tool anchor attachment are products used for attaching hand tools, instrumentation etc. to operators or structures so that the dropped objects incidents can be reduced in working area. It is known that these incidents could cause damage to equipment and struckby injury or fatality. The tool container, tool attachment, tool tether and tool anchor attachment and their combinations are widely used and their market size is valued over 240,000,000 US dollar in 2021 and is expected to record 10% CAGR through 2030 according to GMI (Global market insights). However, right now there is no product standard in ISO standards system, and their performance, testing and labelling must be regulated so that they can be used properly.
