This document specifies methods for calibration of interferometric fiber -optic hydrophones in the frequency range 10 Hz to 20 kHz.
Interferometric fiber-optic hydrophone is a novel underwater acoustic sensor that utilizes optical interference principle to detect underwater acoustic pressures. Compared to traditional piezoelectric hydrophones, interferometric fiber-optic hydrophones have many advantages, such as, anti-electromagnetic interference, high sensitivity, etc., and they are widely applied in marine environment protections and energy developments. The phase-shifted sensitivity is the most fundamental parameter reflecting the performance of interferometric fiber-optic hydrophones. How to calibrate interferometric fiber -optic hydrophones is paid more attentions, and various calibration m ethods have been developed. Consequently, it is required to start a new project of international standard on the calibration of interferometric fiber -optic hydrophones in the frequency range 10 Hz to 20 kHz.
