Scope

This document specifies a data format for the CFP exchange data model in IEC CDD, and provides guidance for the application of carbon footprints of products (CFP) data exchange including use cases.

NOTE: the data format is to be developed in consistent with IEC/ISO 82474 -1.

Purpose

In recent years, regional/national environmental footprint related initiatives call for consistent approach for assessing the environmental impacts. The supply chain of the product is complex, as production, manufacturing and distribution processes are related to different countries and regions, however, there are differences in the methodologies for quantification of GHG emissions among countries and regions, in order to improve the quality of CFP data exchange and make the consistent of CFP data, there is need to standardization for CFP data exchange.

IEC 63372 provides methodologies for quantification of GHG emissions, which could also be regarded as carbon footprint of a product–product category rules (CFP-PCR) for electrical and electronic products and systems (EEPS).
