Scope
This document specifies the requirements for the operational management of a smart hospital operations center (SHOC).
This document does not specify: 1) specific technical components and detailed design of data integration technologies used within SHOCs; 2) clinical care protocols or patient management practices.
Purpose
A smart hospital operations center (SHOC) is a centralized or decentralized system that leverages technology and data analytics to oversee and improve hospital operations in real time. By integrating information from various systems, SHOCs enhance decision-making, resource allocation, and patient care. The complexities of modern healthcare - such as resource limitations, fluctuating demand, and communication gaps - make efficient management critical. SHOCs address these issues by 1) (boosting efficiency) coordinating workflows and minimizing delays, b) (enhancing patient care) realtime insights improve response times and outcomes, c) (reducing cost) optimizing resource usage while maintaining quality, and d) (adapting to change) scalable design accommodates evolving technologies and needs. Without a standardized framework, SHOCs are implemented inconsistently, resulting in inefficiencies and variable outcomes. Establishing global guidelines is vital to support consistent, effective operations. This document specifies operational requirements for SHOCs. It aims to provide hospitals with a standardized approach to operational excellence. The standardized approach ensures SHOCs deliver improved patient outcomes, optimized resources, and resilience, empowering hospitals to meet healthcare demands effectively.
