Scope
This document specifies methods for determining integrity of easy-open ends and peel-off ends by differential-pressure methods.
It is applicable to the determination of the integrity of easy-open ends and peel-off ends of the light gauge metal containers.
Purpose
Light gauge metal containers are extensively utilized in various industries such as canned food, beverages, infant formula, alcohol, cosmetics, and others. In recent years, the advancement of traditional metal packaging materials and the development of novel packaging materials have significantly enhanced the quality level of metal containers while expanding their application scope. This promotes rapid industry transformation and upgrading. As an integral component of metal packaging containers, the application of easy-open ends and peel-off ends not only effectively addresses the issue of opening these containers, it also caters to consumer demand for convenience and ready-to-eat products. Moreover, it promotes the use of metal packaging in a wider range of food and beverages including dishes, soups, juices, coffee, etc. The subsequent challenge lies in ensuring that easy-open ends and peel-off ends on metal containers possess excellent integrity. It is well-known that integrity is crucial performance indicators guaranteeing content quality and safety within these containers. Any damage to the integrity of metal container would lead to changes in internal environmental conditions, causing the quality of content vary or even deteriorate over time. In the methods for testing container integrity performance, the differential pressure methods is one of the most commonly used approaches. Its principle involves utilizing the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the container to evaluate its integrity. Therefore, developing globally standardized test methods for determining integrity specifically for easy-open ends and peel-off ends on metal packaging is highly necessary and significant. It is important for assessing product performance measurements as well as resolving international trade issues arising from a lack thereof.
