Standards Development
The proposed work aims at producing a TR that is a framework document for European digital archiving and preservation that draws a mapping of existing European national regulations, European, international and national standards, specifications and other documentation related to the scope of CEN/TC 468.
This mapping will allow to identify the standardization deliverables to be used in different cases, and the potential lacks. Moreover, it allows to foresee additional standardization deliverables needed to address topics that may not yet be covered, and give perspectives for future work. Finally, it also provides a big picture of all topics regarding digital archiving and preservation for Europe.
For the mapping, a methodology for assessing the content of the standards will be developed, that could be used for analysing other documents beyond the mapping that can be done within the TR.
As planned in the scope of the TC and strategic business plan, there is a need for identifying and mapping existing initiatives and standards in use within the European market, whether national or international deliverables.
One of the main objectives for the TC is to coordinate and share national approaches and knowledge, in order to identify similarities and common views that will help to elaborate, through consensus, a European approach to the subject matter.
