Scope

This proposed standard specifies the terms and definitions, performance test requirements and methods, performance rating method, test tolerances and marking provisions of electrically driven compressor for automotive air conditioning.

Purpose

By 2025, global sales of new energy vehicles are expected to exceed 35 million units, with a penetration rate of 35% and a market size exceeding $2.5 trillion. It is estimated that by 2030, the market size of new energy vehicle air conditioning compressors will reach $22 billion, with an expected compound annual growth rate of 12.3%. The automotive air conditioning system is the second largest energy consuming module in new energy vehicles, especially under extreme weather conditions, such as in a high temperature environment of 35 , where the power consumption of the electric air conditioning compressor accounts for 20-30% of the total power consumption of the vehicle; Under the low-temperature heating condition of -10 , the power consumption ratio is as high as 40-50%, which brings huge range anxiety to users. Meanwhile, with the goal of peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, green and low-carbon development is an inevitable trend in the development of the key components industry for new energy vehicles. At present, there are standards for compressors used in automotive air conditioning in regions such as the United States, Europe, and China. TC86/SC4 has released corresponding standards for volumetric refrigeration compressors, but electric compressors for automotive air conditioning have different requirements for refrigeration and heat pump conditions as well as new refrigerants. One reason is that R134a refrigerant is gradually being phased out in various countries due to its high GMP value, while environmentally friendly refrigerants such as R-1234yf and R-744 are beginning to be used in automotive air conditioning; Secondly, car air conditioning requires rapid cooling in summer, while the heating conditions of heat pumps in winter are more stringent, which is different from the comfort air conditioning conditions used in general buildings; Thirdly, electric vehicles generally have super fast charging function, which requires the introduction of corresponding working conditions for thermal management. Therefore, it is necessary to establish corresponding refrigerant compressor standards in the field of automotive air conditioning, which not only benefits the high-quality development of related products in the automotive air conditioning industry, but also promotes the reduction of carbon emissions throughout the entire lifecycle of the automotive industry.
