Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marks, packaging, transportation and storage of nuclear instrumentation -neutron-gamma spectroscopy to analyse elements and minerals (formation element and mineralogy logging tool).
Purpose
The formation element and mineralogy logging tool is a nuclear instrument to determine the mineral elements of formation by measuring the gamma rays emitted by the interaction between neutron and the atomic nucleus of formation elements. Of all deep geophysics logging techniques, it is the only one that solves the problem of lithology identification from the perspective of rock composition, it is of great significance to identify complex reservoir lithology and is widely used in petroleum industry, geological and mineral exploration, hydrological exploration, nuclear industry protection and environmental monitoring.
Companies such as Schlumberger, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, and China National Petroleum Corporation have successfully developed Geophysical borehole instrumentation for neutron-gamma spectrum to analyze rock constituent, which have been on the market for more than 20 years, there are no relevant international standards. Standards need to be formulated for equipment composition, power supply systems, product and accessory external diameters, logging speed, working and test conditions, measurement errors, calibration and safety conditions.
As a nuclear instrument for geological exploration, the Geophysical borehole instrumentation for neutron- gamma spectrum to analyze rock constituent belongs to the scope of IEC/TC45 .
