Scope

This document specifies a test method for measuring the impedance of e -textiles that use alternating current (AC) in applications such as wearable sensors, devices and systems. This method defines test conditions and the procedures necessary to evaluate th e impedance characteristics of e- textiles.

Purpose

E-textile products utilizing alternating current (AC) are capable of transmitting and receiving various types of signals, influenced by parameters such as frequency and impedance.

As the global market for e-textile wearables continues to grow—driven by increasing demand for health tracking, performance optimization, and immersive user experiences —commercialized products such as respiratory monitoring garments and motion -tracking gloves are becoming more prevalent. These products are being adopted across various industries, including leisure, sports science, and virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR).

Impedance-based sensors and devices are key enabling technologies in these applications. However, the absence of standardized methods for measuring the impedance of e -textiles presents challenges in terms of product validation, consistency, and interoperab ility. Therefore, it is essential to establish international standards to support reliable development, evaluation, and quality assurance of impedance-based e-textile products.
